Prototyping our concept

We wanted to craft a story driven game, where your choices mechanically impact you character's state of mind.

Our goal for this jam relase:
  • To test if the metrics of these mechanics have to be shown to the player (something like mass effect or the telltale series).  We tried not showing any.
  • To get some knowledge on programming (first time for all of us).
  • To get the handle on Godot.
What went well:
  • We managed to get the game to run on Android devices, which was the biggest challenge.
  • The story branches according to the mechanics. There are already some subtleties on the informations we give to the player, according to his actions.
  • We all learned something from this experience.
  • As french people,  publishing the game in both french and english was a big step for us.
  • Most of all, we enjoyed ourselves. It's fun making games with friends.

What could have gone better:
  • We didn't sleep much.
  • We tried to make it too big. Half of the script was not put into the game.
  • The text is sometimes hard to read: In Pre-Production, we did not realize that some visuals would make the text hard to read.
  • We have planned it too big. Half of the scenario was not put into the game.
What's next?
1rst step (upcoming days):
  • The story we want to tell has to be improved.
  • Core concepts have to be refined. Depending on our feedbacks, we may make them more visual to the player.
  • Now that we know a little more about GODOT and programming, we should try to rebuild the game from the ground up.
  • Refine the art
2nd step (ending with quarantine):
  • Expend the story and branches until it reaches a satisfactory lenghs and feel (about 15- 20 minutes)
  • polish it as hell
3rd step (if we keep our motivation running this summer):
  • Make a full game, story out of it? We don't really know yet.
